The mystery PVC piping was not a drain pipe, or anything related to plumbing at all.
Turns out it houses a thin telephone line. That's it.
So bottom line: the entire kitchen design will not have to be scrapped.

About the condo
This one bedroom, one bath rowhouse condo is in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC. In its former life it was a neglected rental property and now is in desperate need of a facelift. The condo has going for it a great location, a fireplace, parking, and alot of potential.
